Rooftop solar panels for Cleveland Bowls Club, a custom built native animal release trailer for the Wildlife Action Group and $70,000 in support for emergency services first responders are among the 32 projects funded in Redland City Council’s latest round of community grants..
Mayor Karen Williams said Council had contributed $360,252 to support organisations and individuals under round one of the 2012-13 Community Grants Program.
”I am delighted that Council can help make so many innovative and well-deserving community projects a reality,” Councillor Williams said.

I’m particularly pleased that we have been able to help three first-response emergency services organisations that collectively received more than $70,000 through five separate grants.”
Councillor Williams said Council received a broad range of grant scheme applications under the categories of organisation support, project support, conservation and capital infrastructure.
Successful recipients include:
- Cleveland Bowls Club – $28,582 to install solar panels and an inverter on the clubhouse roof (capital infrastructure category);
- Volunteer Marine Rescue Raby Bay – $10,000 for search and rescue major incident training event on Moreton Bay (project support category); and
- Wildlife Action Group Inc.- $6,712 to construct a custom built possum/glider (and other native animals) release trailer and buy rehabilitation equipment.

Councillor Williams invited community organisations to apply for round two funding.
“The next funding opportunity for the Community Grants Program will open on 29 January and close on 1 March 2013,” she said.
“Grant application writing workshops will be held from late January to early February 2013 to provide information on the program and categories and how best to write an application for funds. Check Council’s website for more information including dates and venues. Bookings will be essential.
