Almost 200 Dunwich properties will soon be sewered, as part of a $2.26 million Council project beginning next week (4 Aug).
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the project would be a ‘big tick’ on the community’s wish list for infrastructure.
“Council is committed to providing essential infrastructure for our island communities, so it is wonderful to see this project underway,” Cr Williams said.

“Dunwich residents have been calling for the upgrades for quite some time, culminating in them lobbying strongly during township meetings I attended last year. I am happy Council is able to deliver.
“During these meetings residents made it clear the upgrade of the Dunwich sewerage infrastructure was a priority, and Council has listened.
“It will make a huge difference to the township, not only solving current drainage issues, but also giving residents greater access to areas of their land they previously had to dedicate to trenches or septic systems.
“Dunwich residents have received a letter about the project and our officers are also door-knocking to ensure all affected landowners have the opportunity to discuss plans and access requirements for their property.”
Division 2 Councillor Craig Ogilivie said the sewerage works will be carried out over four stages with work to commence next week and be completed by December weather permitting.
“Area one and two works begin in early August and we expect to move quickly, with all four areas complete by the end of the year,” Cr Ogilvie said.
The four stages are:
- Area One includes Mitchell Crescent and sections of Pamphlet Street, Finnegan Street, Guy Crescent, Mermaid Street and Parsons Street.
- Area two includes Shephards Lane and sections of Bingle road, Sally Street, Welsby Street, Pamphlet Street and Finnegan Street.
- Area three includes Fraser Street, Oxley Parade and sections of Cunningham Street
- Area four includes sections of Guy Crescent, Mallon Street and Barton Street
