Glossy Black-Cockatoo annual survey

Volunteer workshops: 20 & 27 September

We’re calling for volunteers to help with the annual survey of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo. One of the more threatened cockatoo species in Australia, it’s listed as a vulnerable species in Queensland.

Although the count isn’t until Sunday 19 October, volunteers need to attend a workshop beforehand. The first ones are 20 and 27 September.

Spring signals the beginning of bird nesting season. Magpies and other birds such as plovers and butcherbirds may swoop. Swooping is a warning signal and is their way of protecting their young.

Check your water meter

Meter reading is almost complete for the October rate notice. Checking your water meter weekly or monthly can help you monitor your usage and detect water leaks early, saving you water and money. It’s easy – turn off all taps around your home and record all numbers from the meter. Do not use any water for at least two hours then check to see if the meter dials have changed since your first reading.
