Public reinterment ceremony

Media are respectfully invited to the formal re-interment of Warrant Officer Class II Kevin George Conway on Monday 6 June 2016 at the Cleveland Cemetery.

On 6 July 1964, Warrant Officer Class II Kevin Conway was the first Australian soldier killed in action in Vietnam.

After 52 years and three previous interments overseas, Kevin will be finally returned home and laid to rest in the Redlands.

Family and relatives of Warrant Officer Class II Kevin George Conway, State and Federal VIPS, armed services and veteran’ representatives and members of the public will be attending the formal ceremony on Monday 6 June.

Attached to a United States Special Forces team A-726 stationed at Camp McBride, Nam Dong, Kevin Conway and US Master Sergeant Gabriel Alamo fought attackers from a mortar position just outside the main gate of the camp during a 700 strong Viet Cong attack.

Both were found dead at their posts following heavy attack from small arms rifle fire and hand grenades.

Public reinterment ceremony

When: Monday 6 June 2016

Time: 10.15am for 10.30am start

Where: Russell Street, Cleveland

Parking will be available on Clarke Street. The formal ceremony is expected to last forty minutes.
