Residents of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) will soon have local access to a range of support services with the launch of the SMBI Community and Wellbeing Hub on Macleay Island.
A partnership initiative between Redland City Council and 10 community organisations, the service will be officially launched on Thursday 17 November.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the outreach service would improve the well-being of residents living on the Bay Islands, with plenty available for all ages and stages of life.

“The new SMBI Community and Wellbeing Hub will offer a raft of services and activities both during times of crisis and for everyday life, including counselling, mental health support, activities for seniors, and emergency relief,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to attend the official opening to learn more about the range of services, programs and activities available – and enjoy the free sausage sizzle too.”

Bay Islands Councillor Mark Edwards said he was pleased island residents would soon have access to the same level of support as those on the mainland.
“This is fantastic for those who call our beautiful Bay Islands home,” he said.

Working Against Violence Support Services (WAVSS)
Individual and family counselling for women and their children who have previously witnessed or lived with domestic violence. Providing a range of innovative, person-led mental health services to SMBI, including Partners in Recovery (PIR), Purposeful Peer Engagement (PPE) and Mental Health Carer Support.

A community organisation which promotes the rights, interests and well-being of those over the age of 50 in Redland City. Provides information and referral service to seniors, their families and their carers, as well as one-on-one computer training.
