The Redlands 24hr Wildlife Rescue (RWR) service urgently needs more phone roster volunteers to join the dedicated team who facilitate the rescue and care of sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in the Redlands.

Redland City Mayor, Karen Williams said the service is a vital community program operated by volunteers and is highly regarded by wildlife organisations and hospitals.

“It also involves local wildlife carers, people who transport injured wildlife, vet surgeries and others who are willing to help out with wildlife advice.

“The RWR includes the daytime Redlands Wildlife Care Network (RWCN) and Redlands After-hours Wildlife Ambulance (RAWA), with this year marking 20 years since Council took management of the ambulance service.

“The RWCN volunteers provide a vital contact point for people reporting sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in the Redlands during the day.

“The volunteers assess the situation and coordinate the best outcome for the animal from all available resources.

“This may include organising a rescue, providing advice, guidance and behavioural information or contacting a local registered wildlife carer to rehabilitate the animal until it can be released back in its habitat,” Cr Williams said.

“There is no night work involved, no prior knowledge required and all training and equipment is provided.

“We just need a commitment between 8am and 5pm daily for one week out of every 5-6 weeks, and you can even work in the comfort of your own home.

An induction for new volunteers is set for Monday 23 April at IndigiScapes in Capalaba. Those interested in volunteering should register for the induction by emailing [email protected] or phone IndigiScapes on 3824 8611.
