Redland City Council is helping to activate Queensland Youth Week (11 to 17 April 2023) through a funding program that aims to help youth organisations deliver free events for young people aged 12 to 24, during this special week.

The Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week funding will support youth-focused organisations wanting to host events on their own premises through funding of up to $2000 per event, from an available pool of $15,000.

Mayor Karen Williams said this was the third year in which Council had provided funding for Youth Week activities.

“Our Redlands Coast youth are important members of our community, and this year the funding reach has been expanded to include not-for-profit groups that are based outside Redlands Coast, but already deliver youth programs here and want to increase connections with our young people,” she said.

“These youth organisations that are based in other cities, as well as our local organisations operating in the youth space, are encouraged to apply for assistance to hold a Youth Week activity on Redlands Coast to further engage with our almost 25,000 young people.

“Council supports Youth Week to celebrate the young residents of our city and provide more opportunities for them to participate in activities they might otherwise be unable to do because of time or costs.

“We also want young people to discover new services or organisations they didn’t know existed before, so they are aware of the support options available and hopefully will be more open to accessing them in the future.”

Cr Williams said previously funded activities included painting workshops, a skate jam night, pizza and movie night, and an obstacle course.

“Council is looking for a broad range of place-based activations this year, including events that are artistic, musical or creative in some way,” she said.

“Fun and engaging events for young people aged from 15 to 24 are particularly encouraged.”

Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week funding applications close at 11.59pm on Friday, 24 February 2023.
