Council is encouraging residents to help plant thousands of trees to help celebrate National Tree Day on Sunday 31 July.
There are two chances for you to get involved in the national day of greening, with a public event and schools plantings available.
Everyone is welcome to the public National Tree Day event on Sunday 31 July where 1000 trees will be planted in the Judy Holt Reserve in Birkdale, helping to expand habitat and improve water quality along Tarradarrapin Creek.
Council will dig the holes and supply the gardening equipment; all you need to bring is your enthusiasm for supporting the local environment, drinking water and enclosed shoes.
There’ll be a free sausage sizzle, displays and lucky door prizes. So come along from 9am – 11am Sunday 31 July to Judy Holt Reserve, Birkdale. Just past the Birkdale Waste Transfer Station off Old Cleveland Road (off-street parking available, UBD Ref. Map 184 N9).
Local schools can also get involved with Council offering free trees to be planted on Schools Tree Day on Friday 29 July.
All schools have to do is come along to Council’s IndigiScapes Centre Nursery (17 Runnymede Rd, Capalaba) on Wednesday 27, Thursday 28 or Friday 29 July between 10am and 4pm and Council will help you choose your 40 free plants.
