With sand mining on Straddie to end by 2019, this is the perfect opportunity to grow tourism in the region. The island already has an abundance of marine life and impressive dive sites like the Manta Bommie, which is known as one of Australia’s top 10 dive sites.

Scuttling the ex-HMAS Tobruk and creating a new artificial reef on Straddie’s doorstep would attract more divers and provide flow-on economic opportunities for our region.

Council will submit a formal expression of interest to the State Government by 16 September. Read more here.
