Local history – Ormiston’s sweet beginnings

Did you know that Ormiston was one of the birthplaces of the Australian sugar industry? Captain Louis Hope, who also named Ormiston after a village in Scotland, grew and milled the first commercially produced sugar in Queensland.

The Hope family home – Ormiston House – has stood the test of time, continuing to draw visitors to the Redlands.
